HPEXAM

Study software for Part I of the American Board of Health Physics Exam

HPEXAM was first created in 1989 to help me study for ABHP Part I, when some of my co-workers saw the program, they thought that I had an unfair advantage over others that take the exam. The only reasonable thing to do was to make the software available to everybody. So, the price of HPEXAM has always been around the price of a video game, but its capabilities have expanded over the years making HPEXAM one of the most popular study tools for the ABHP exam.

HPEXAM currently has a database of 1100 questions with technical content similar to the questions on the exam.

The HPEXAM questions are not the same as the questions on the exam although some may be similar.

HPEXAM has the following features:

You can create an exam with as many questions as you like.

Your exams may cover any or all of the question categories.

The question base is divided into 25 categories as follows:

Physical Concepts, Radioactivity, Nuclear Reactions, Kinetics, Radiation, Dosimetry, Radiation Detection, Shielding, Biological Effects, Standards for Protection, General Health Physics, Accelerator Health Physics, Medical Health Physics, Reactor Health Physics, Fallout and Nuclear Weapons, Air Sampling and Analysis, Respiratory Protection, Meteorology, Statistics and Data Analysis, Non-ionizing Radiation, Emergency Response, Environmental Radioactivity, Waste Disposal, Transportation, and Miscellaneous.

You can select to include questions from any of these categories in your exams.

You can print exams and answer sheets and a score card of how you did for each test that you make and take.

As you answer questions, HPEXAM provides timing and tracks your correct and incorrect answers, and provides the correct answer with an explanation of why!

Dixie and I are proud of our work with HPEXAM and love to hear how people did with it. We hope you enjoy HPEXAM and if you take the exam, we wish you the best of luck!

The ABHP and The AAHP - More information at: http://www.hps1.org/aahp/

The ABHP is the American Board of Health Physics. This group is the examining body of the American Academy of Health Physics (AAHP), the collection of all Certified Health Physicists (CHP). The ABHP evaluates prospective examination candidates, administers examinations, corrects the examinations, and operates as an independent entity under the direction of the AAHP.

The AAHP is an organization that advances the profession of Health Physics, encourages the highest standards of ethics and integrity in the practice of Health Physics, enhances communications among Certified Health Physicists and provides a means for Active CHPs to participate in the certification program. All Certified Health Physicists are eligible for membership in the AAHP. Additionally, persons who have successfully completed one part of the two part exam are eligible for associate membership for that period of time that they remain eligible to take the remaining part.
