As a Health Physicist of long-standing, I have come to depend on a variety of resources for information. Among those many resources, the one that seems to stand the tallest has to be the 1970 Radiological Health Handbook. Recognize that this book contains material that is more than 30 years old. For more up-to-date information, I recommend The Health Physics and Radiological Health Handbook, Revised Edition. This book was initially published in 1992 and it has been updated and corrected several times since then. It is an excellent resource. Why then would I consider reproducing the ‘original' Rad Health Handbook. Very simply, to be used as an education, reference, and research tool. Two of our programs were developed prior to 1990 and therefore, one of the main study resources was the 1970 Rad Health Handbook. This book has been out-of-print for several years and is otherwise unavailable for use with those computer study programs. This has created a problem with regard to some of the questions and/or answers in our computer programs. The program user requires the identified reference or resource to allow further research or study into the subject noted in the question and/or answer. For the reasons noted above, this handbook is being offered as a companion piece to our software programs or as an educational, reference, and/or research tool for use with any other program of study. Any costs associated with this reproduced handbook exist to cover reproduction, binding, and shipping costs. The ‘original' Rad Health Handbook has been faithfully reproduced with only one hand written addition. This particular omission was ‘penciled-in' by my state regulator in Washington many years ago and I am not about to delete it now! Once again, I emphasize that it is not my intention to revise or update the original text of the Handbook; that has already been done in the 1992 Health Physics and Radiological Health Handbook. Consult that publication for the most up-to-date information.
